It’s that time of year again where we start thinking of New Year’s resolution ideas for 2021 and goals we can set that may even involve the family too!

Here’s 10 new years goals and ideas that you and the whole family can have for this year:


Practice Gratitude As A Family

This is a fantastic new year’s resolution for kids and parents alike.

It’s a fact that the more grateful a person is, the happier they are. And for the kids, learning this at a young age means they’ll carry this through their whole life and the happier they’ll be!


Here’s some ideas on how to include gratitude in your daily life:

  • Set a 21 day challenge for the family to write down 5 things each person is grateful for daily. Make it fun and get the whole family their own journals to practice gratitude. We love this Gratitude Journal by Blossom 2 Awesome for kids!
  • Send thank you notes for more than just gifts received. Choose 1 day a month where the whole family writes thank you notes for any form of kindness – big or small.
  • Keep it where you can see it! Put what your grateful for on the fridge or on a bulletin board so it’s easy to see and remember.


Keep electronics away from earshot when spending time together

Date night

This one’s just for parents!

It’s easy to put your marriage second when it comes to the kids, but it’s so important to connect with your partner regularly. Plan in monthly date nights and stick to the schedule!



Set some time to volunteer with the family this year. It could be a beach clean up or walking dogs at a dog rescue shelter. This allows you and the kids to connect with the community while making it a better place, making connections and helping others.

Dedicate time once a month or quarter to spend some time volunteering with your family.

With the current circumstances we have found our level of exercise and fitness as decreased. So make a commitment as a family to exercise more together.

Whether you put on a YouTube video and follow the exercises, or do a family workout in your backyard, make a commitment to be healthier and happier in the New Year. Be sure to make it realistic so it’s more achievable, instead of every day, agree to exercise together twice a week.


Be confident in yourself

Looking for good new year’s resolution ideas for a teenage girl or boy? Loving yourself and being confident in your own body is a great one (and it’s great for adults too!). This will help your teen feel more confident, positive and ready to take on the day.

Here’s some tips on how to do this:

  • Focus on the positive

  • Accept and love every part of yourself (no one’s perfect!)

This one’s for the parents.

Of course your little one’s needs come first, but taking the time to look after your own needs will help you be more resilient and give your more energy.
