1. Can you tell us a little about your business and what inspired you to start it? 

My e-commerce business started about 1,5 years ago as I was trying to find harmless products for my skincare. Being a Nature’s advocate and becoming a mom made me more conscious about what I apply on my skin. So, my research led me to an ancient Asian secret for gentle facial exfoliation, the silk cocoons.

2. What unique products or services does your business offer that you believe set you apart? 

My brand focuses on silk cocoons, a wonder of nature that is used for facial exfoliation and has been scientifically proven to be very beneficial for the skin. Silk cocoons are 100% natural and toxic free, packed with proteins that help reduce wrinkles and pigmentation, improve skin elasticity as they boost collagen production, keep skin well hydrated as they lock moisture in and help fight off acne and blackheads, make past acne scars disappear and soothe skin redness. All these benefits without the harmful and harsh chemicals that most skincare products are full with. This means that Maysan silk cocoons are safe for everyone to use (from adults to preteens starting a skincare routine to teenagers combating acne).

3. What has been the most rewarding aspect of running your own business? 

The most rewarding aspect of running my own business is that I was a able to do my professional come back, after taking care of my child, at my own pace and doing something that inspires me a lot: educating people about the importance of returning back to the roots, using natural products to take care of ourselves while being mindful about the environment.

4. How do you see your business contributing to the local community in the UAE? 

Maysan has been able to change the habits of women and teenagers when it comes to their skincare. They’re realizing that they don’t need to burden their bodies with tons of chemicals to maintain healthy skin. But the most important part for me is that preteens have the opportunity to start a healthy routine and relationship with their skin without damaging it at this delicate age. On top of that, I rest assured that the environment is completely safe by the presence of my brand as Maysan is the most sustainable option when it comes to skincare; natural, free of chemicals, biodegradable and compostable. So, the importance of this positive impact in the local community is the factor that drives me!

5. What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I face is that silk cocoons are such a unique and unknown product that the audience doesn’t know what they are, how they are used and what benefits they have. So, I need to invest a lot of effort into educating them as it’s not just another cream to add in their routine; it’s a whole new philosophy based in mindfulness. Although this challenge is one of the reasons why I started my business (I wanted to have a unique, impactful and innovative idea), it is a difficult one to overcome as the skincare industry has a lot of big players that rule the business.

6. What message or advice would you like to share with other aspiring women entrepreneurs? 

Find the driving force in you, believe in yourself and don’t quit when it gets challenging.
