Temple of Abu Simbel
Discover one of the most impressive constructions in the world with a long history! Built by King Ramesses II of the 19th dynasty, and well known for the four imposing seated colossal statues that dominate its facade. Colossal standing statues of the king line the main hall, leading to the sanctuary where four deities are sat: Amun‑Ra, Ra‑Horakhty, Ptah, and a deified version of Ramesses II. Alongside the larger temple stands a smaller temple that honors Ramesses II’s wife, queen Nefertari; her colossi are the same size as those of her husband, a very rare example of such display. The most remarkable feature of the temple is that the phenomenon of the sun to shine on the face of King Ramses II twice a year on February 22 (coronation date) and October 22 (birthday of Ramesses II). There's also Sound and Light show at Abu Simbel depicts how this temple looked originally and its history, introduced in various languages.
