Small Business Spotlight: The Mammy’s

During this time (and always!) it is so important to support local and the small business in our communities. Plus it’s great for the economy too! We are constantly inspired by the ambition and resilience of small business founders. We feel that the risks that they take lead to innovation and help in moving the world forward.

Inspired by these entrepreneurs and their stories, we recently chatted with Alyae Sentissi – owner of The Mammy’s, about being an entrepreneur, running a small business while also running a family, and how she’s adapted to the changes that Covid-19 has brought to her business.

What is your business about and why did you start it?

The Mammy’s is a platform which propose kids activities boxes enabling them to learn and discover while having fun.

What do you love about your business?

It is allowing me to spend more time with my kids. My heart melt when I see them trying my activities before the launching of each box. They are my inspiration. All full-time workings moms wish having time to spend with their kids.

How do you manage your time between running a business and a family?

Being a working mom is like having two full-time jobs, but with a bit of planning, anything is doable.

During lockdown, I had to spend long hours working at night, after my kid’s bedtime. Then I learnt to manage my time more wisely once the kids went back to school.

As I mentioned, my kids are my inspiration but also a part of my journey. So, I get to enjoy my time with them while testing my products.
It requires a lot of motivation and hard work, but we can see positive results through their expressions.

How has Covid-19 affected your business and how have you adapted?

I launched my business a year ago, the covid-19 had essential impact on my business since I received many enquiries from parents who have kids at home and needed to keep them busy.

However, I was not ready for that significant numbers of orders. I had limited budget and reaching suppliers was a hassle.

Then when the quarantine was over, I was able to make a special event for The Mammy’s boxes launching.

Any piece of advice to other small businesses owners or anyone wanting to start their own business?

It all start with passion, and you will bit by bit learn to manage your life priorities and gain the confidence you need to turn your business into success story.
