Small Business Spotlight: Bundle of Joy

During this time (and always!) it is so important to support local and the small business in our communities. Plus it’s great for the economy too! We are constantly inspired by the ambition and resilience of small business founders. We feel that the risks that they take lead to innovation and help in moving the world forward.

Inspired by these entrepreneurs and their stories, we recently chatted with Seema Adnan – owner of Bundle of Joy, about being an entrepreneur, running a small business while also running a family, and how she’s adapted to the changes that Covid-19 has brought to her business.

What is your business about and why did you start it?

Bundle of joy is all about personalized gifting for all ages. I founded Bundle of joy in 2018. It was born out of sheer passion of gifting something unique to my loved ones. I wanted to give not just a baby gift but something more, unique and customized tailored to my preference of budget too. Really couldn’t find anyone who would put together a nice hamper with decent designer label outfits in a budget.

I started with the diaper cakes and was blown away by the positive feedback and appreciation. I understood immediately that this was more than a hobby for me. Within a month of having the idea, I had completed all of the research and registered as a business. I started out with just two items (Diaper Cakes and Baby Baskets) that could be customized to the customer’s preferences and budget.

All my products including ribbons for the diaper cake are imported from USA and are of premium designer labels. All of the prices are really reasonable. Each gift basket is put together with the endless love and care making it the most thoughtful way to greet and welcome a new baby. I have added personalized wooden and acrylic gifts that can be made and engraved according to the customer’s preferences. These gifts are perfect for any occasion.

What do you love about your business?

I really enjoy interacting with my customers. They get a very personalized concierge service. I take the time to understand the customer’s needs and budget before recommending the suitable product for their desires. Most importantly what I love the most is the customer’s or their loved one’s reaction after receiving the gifts. It’s not just a business for me but also a way to spread joy in other people’s life.

Customers have always praised my service in their reviews and recommendations, not only my stuff. This is unquestionably a significant advantage for a small business like mine. Over time, I’ve made some wonderful new friends, some of whom were formerly my sole clients. The entire voyage is a joyous experience.

How do you manage your time between running a business and a family?

It’s never easy and I don’t believe it ever will be. Bundle of joy is my second child. Days are long and nights are short. There is always a to do list and never-ending checklist. I make every effort to complete my business-related tasks while my son is in school, but I often find myself catching up on queries and other tasks during the day. Prioritizing the day’s tasks allows me to progress slowly.

Going forward, taking one step at a time is the greatest method. I’m grateful for an amazing family’s support. My husband and son are very patient and understanding. It would not have been possible to come this far without their help.

How has Covid-19 affected your business and how have you adapted?

This pandemic has undoubtedly altered everyone’s perceptive process. We learned to relax as a result of it. Life is worth appreciating and celebrating. People are adjusting well to E-commerce business and enjoying the convenience of getting goods delivered right at their doorsteps. There is more acceptability of online shopping now than it was before. There was certainly an increase in the online transactions.

I introduced a new line of personalized products in 2020. Customized Wooden & Acrylic gift items. The idea of a personalized gift makes a long-lasting impression. Customers were excited to see this new range of products. So many gifts very put together just to show and appreciate their love for the family and friends.

I have always been very careful when dealing with baby products before pandemic but now the SOP’s are followed more strictly. Each item is carefully sanitized and wrapped making it the perfect gift for the loved ones.

Any piece of advice to other small businesses owners or anyone wanting to start their own business?

There are no quick fixes when it comes to achieving success. Building your name, brand, customers, and space takes time. Patience, I believe, is the key. Make a plan and stick to it. Believe in the process. There are some fantastic Facebook groups established by excellent local entrepreneurs and business gurus. Don’t be afraid to seek assistance from industry peers and entrepreneurs. Enjoy the highs and lows, and one day you will be grateful for all of your hard work in your business.
