Hey Dubai mama, what is your fantasy?! Let me guess: you dream of lying on a tropical island sipping a delicious and refreshing drink. On this island, no one asks you for snacks, no one is whining, and nobody, not even your kids’ school or husband can reach you.
Before your mind wanders to this amazing scenario, I’m here to remind you that we, as moms, have too much on our plate and on our mind. We’re so busy organizing and remembering everything for everyone that we forget about ourselves and even our own health.
But every October, during “Pink Month,” we get a little reminder in the form of a pink ribbon to check on ourselves. This month isn’t one to ignore along with all the many holidays and events on the calendar. It’s time to book a breast cancer screening and health check with your doctor today, not tomorrow. If you can take all those appointments for your kids and family, you can squeeze in one little phone call for yourself! In the long run, your family will thank you for sticking around longer and staying healthy.
So you’ve taken your appointment and you’re wearing pink: haven’t you done your duty for Pinktober? It’s definitely a great start, but this month is also a reminder that many women did not get an early diagnosis or access to treatment, and that breast cancer research still needs funding.
Luckily enough there’s a way to donate to the cause and, believe it or not, get the relaxing break of your dreams at a Dubai hotel. At Lapita Hotel in Dubai Parks and Resorts, their Pink Staycation this month actually donates directly to Al Jalila Foundation that supports research and treatment of breast cancer in the UAE. Lapita Hotel have actually re-decorated several of their tropical-themed rooms with Pinktober décor, including bedding, toiletries and other special touches. The overall effect is to transport you straight to tropical relaxation.
Besides having a buffet breakfast, a one-hour spa treatment and a stay in a pink-themed tropical hotel room, half of what you spend will go to helping other women with their treatment for breast cancer, or go towards furthering breast cancer research in the UAE.
It’s official: October is the month for Dubai moms to take care of ourselves.
