Celebrating Women’s Day: Q&A With QiDZ COO

Expert Advice|For Moms|Parenting

International women’s day may be over, but we think everyday is women’s day! This week we sat down with QiDZ Co-founder and COO Ines Mena and asked her some questions that we think could help any working or busy mom out there!

What is one way that you take time for yourself during the week?

With three kids and a full time job I don’t have much time for myself, but what I try and do is enjoy my time at the gym where I go two to three times a week and do cardio or yoga sessions. In the evenings, when my kids are in bed I always find time to spend some time with my girlfriends and also learn Arabic.

What pressures do you go through and what makes you feel stronger?

I wouldn’t call it pressure but what I definitely feel is that nowadays mothers go through many more challenges than in early days and need to juggle a million things at the same time. And days have only 24 hours! What makes me feel stronger is when I see that my family is fed and taken care of, my kids are happy, the house is managed, the company is running well and my close friends are ok – then I must be doing something right!

How do you manage your time between running a business and a family?

In my particular experience, going from having a full time job with a 9 to 5 schedule to managing your own time with full flexibility has not been an easy process. You would think that you are able to spend more time with your kids and your family but in reality you work more than ever! Luckily I have great support at both work and at home and I am able to keep a better work life balance.

What do you think makes a great mom?

I don’t think there is a definition of a great mom, every mom is a great mom to their children and this is what matters.

Advice for women wanting to start their own business?

I would give a million advice! But the most important ones for me are make sure you are solving a real problem, find the right partner (or partners) that complement you (I would not launch a business alone!), and make sure you enjoy what you do. It is a great journey and you want to enjoy the ride!
