We recently got in touch with Al Mamoura Academy to find out how their students and parents have approached distance learning during Ramadan.

A Student’s Point Of View

Ghaya Al Muhairi, a Year 6 student at Al Mamoura Academy, spoke to us about her learning routine during Ramadan, and also good deeds and essential qualities during this time.

What do you think the most essential qualities of Ramadan are?

I think there are many, one of the most important is having sympathy for poor people who go hungry for long periods with no access to food or drink.

Another quality is showing kindness to others and avoiding name-calling and other mean-spirited actions.

Can you give an example of how you try to perform one of these good deeds yourself?

Fasting helps us to empathize with those who go without food due to poverty.

We can also donate money to the Red Crescent to provide food, water or clothes to those who need it most.

We forgive a person that has made a mistake easier in Ramadan, and we try our best to be kind towards everyone who crosses our path.

What is your distance learning routine during Ramadan?

I wake up for Suhoor, then I try my best to wake up early in time for my live lessons which typically begin my day.

Then I follow the same routine daily; I just try to drink more water and generally eat well during Suhoor to give me the energy I need for the day ahead.

What is the best thing about distance learning during Ramadan in your opinion?

Personally, the best thing I love about distance learning in Ramadan is that our lesson timings have been adapted to Ramadan.

Extra time is given to submit work, and the schedules of the lessons are more flexible during Ramadan.

A Parent’s Point Of View

As a parent, what has really worked for you during the Distance Learning period?

I have really learnt to be more organised and create a structured routine for working at home with my children.

I am now prepared for all unexpected eventualities.

I have also started to teach my children to be more independent learners.

This experience has really shown me how demanding and challenging a teachers job can be.

The whole school is doing an amazing job at working together, and we are very lucky to have such a strong support system to aid our children’s distance learning.

All of the school staff from teachers, security, cleaners, Admin and SLT need to be appreciated more for all the effort they put into making school a wholesome, safe environment for our children.
