During this time (and always!) it is so important to support local and small businesses in our communities. Plus it’s great for the economy too! We are constantly inspired by the ambition and resilience of small business founders. We feel that the risks that they take lead to innovation and help in moving the world forward.
Inspired by these entrepreneurs and their stories, we recently chatted with Zeyna Sanjania – owner of Mummy On My Mind Store, about being an entrepreneur, running a small business while also running a family, and how she has adapted to the changes that Covid-19 had brought to her business.
What is your business about and why did you start it?
Mummy On My Mind Store offers a bespoke service of custom portrait doodles. These are lovingly designed and individually hand painted. It makes for the perfect personalized gifting for yourself, family, friends and loved ones, adding that extra wow to your mantelpiece or wall. I began this because I love creating art, and this is a perfect creative outlet whilst at the same time creating happiness for my customers and making their #shelfie game very strong!
What do you love about your business?
I love hearing the positive feedback! Especially knowing that I have captured the personalized details just right and the way they wanted it.
How do you manage time between running a business and family?
It is definitely a juggle, and more often than not I work during my younger son’s nap time. Let’s hope he never stops needing those daily afternoon naps!
How has Covid-19 affected your business and how have you adapted?
It has allowed me to grow my business in different ways! As well as launch Digital Doodles so that people can still get their hands on their Doodle Portraits, no matter where they are in the world. It’s also allowed me to get in touch with some amazing people who want to support small businesses any way they can during this challenging time, and that is truly heart warming.
Any piece of advice to other small businesses owners or anyone wanting to start their own business?
Go for it! Rather than umm-ing and aah-ing about your business idea, waiting for the perfect opportunity to rise up, just go for it and put it out there. Conditions are never going to be absolutely perfect, and you will only learn through your mistakes as you grow your small business. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help, the UAE community of small businesses is so amazing and helpful, and there are many individuals and groups that will be happy to answer your questions.
