During this time (and always!) it is so important to support local and small businesses in our communities. Plus it’s great for the economy too! We are constantly inspired by the ambition and resilience of small business founders and feel that the risks that they take lead to innovation and help in moving the world forward.
Inspired by these entrepreneurs and their stories, we recently chatted with Carme Coll Fabrés – owner of La Petite H, about being an entrepreneur, running a small business while also running a family, and how she has adapted to the changes that Covid-19 had brought to her business.
What is your business about and why did you start it?
I sell accessories for babies and kids like changing mats, fabric and wood teethers, waterproof bibs, chalkboard books, Montessori balls and now I am expanding to new products such as reusable cleaning pads. All sewed by me with high quality fabrics I choose very carefully.
The idea came when I was pregnant with my first daughter, then i started sewing and some people liked the things I was doing and asked for them. And in 2017 La Petite H officially started, welcoming my second daughter.
What do you love about your business?
I love to choose the fabrics, and make combinations. And of course I love when customers contact me back just to say they are very happy with the product, or someone just got one of my products as a gift and they want something else or choose a gift for another friend. This makes me so happy.
How do you manage your time between running a business and a family?
Hahahah…. well, until now i managed pretty well. Working while my daughters were at school and at nights while they are sleeping. With the actual situation, I sit on my desk when I can. I love my work so I try to find a balance between family and work.
How has Covid-19 affected your business and how have you adapted?
Well as I said, my work time has been reduced drastically with the Covid-19 situation, with three kids at home it’s not easy, but it’s funny (sometimes…) With no markets to go, right now my business runs 100% on Instagram and mouth to ear.
Any piece of advice to other small businesses owners or anyone wanting to start their own business?
If you really want it, go for it. It’s going to be hard, but if it’s something you love it’s worth it.
And here, I think, there is a big community of entrepreneurs with small business like mine who always supported me, it should not be different with you.
