During this time (and always!) it is so important to support local and small businesses in our communities. Plus it’s great for the economy too! We are constantly inspired by the ambition and resilience of small business founders. We feel that the risks that they take lead to innovation and help in moving the world forward.
Inspired by these entrepreneurs and their stories, we recently chatted with Farah Elani & Nagham Elani – owners of GivGads, about being entrepreneurs, running a small business while also running a family, and how they have adapted to the changes that Covid-19 has brought to their business.
What is your business about and why did you start it?
We are an online business in UAE, selling Home Décor Products, focusing mainly on Baby and Kids Room Accessories like shelves, canopies, storages, wall decoration, floor rugs, stickers, bedding sets and toys…..
My sister and I started Givgads in 2015 as a small store in Lebanon. We are both big dreamers, and we both excelled in what we do, my sister in Management and Operations and me in Design and Construction. We shared the same interest of being self- employed, and growing big and international.
What do you love about your business?
Seeing the happiness and satisfaction that our products provide to our customers especially helping excited moms decorate the rooms of their newborns.
We love designing, and transforming spaces into beautiful, elegant and gorgeous enclosures.
We love working together as sisters.
How do you manage your time between running a business and a family?
It is a bit hectic but we try as much to stay organized and stick to the plan.
How has Covid-19 affected your business and how have you adapted?
Covid-19 accompanied a long-term economic crisis in Lebanon which forced us to freeze our business there, although we have achieved a great success in Lebanon with a big base of fans and customers. We decided to move in to UAE as a new market, carrying with us all the experience and the great products and service.
Any piece of advice to other small businesses owners or anyone wanting to start their own business?
Never to surrender! Stay focused and keep the hard work! Things will change eventually.
